What Makes It Possible — Back-up Friends and Family

Living out here on the road is easier for me because of friends and family members who have stated, unsolicited, that if I need to come in off the road in an emergency that I am welcome to stay with them until I get set up in a new place. I’m feel very loved and lucky.

The security this generosity of spirit gives me is priceless. I have no idea if the offers would still be good when and if the time comes, but I suspect they would be. These are solid folks.

I say I’m lucky, but I’ve also worked hard to make myself a decent human being and to forge reciprocally supportive relationships. I wasn’t always decent. My hurt and dysfunction earlier in life did not give me good friends and family who wanted me around. Now that I’ve cleaned up my own psychic messes and gotten rid of my anger and bad habits, I’m easier to be around. I’m even fun and inspiring to be around.

It’s also good to have family and friends all over the country, as I do, so that you have people to visit. It’s much nicer for me to be at a campground when friends or family members are within an hour’s drive. If I know I’m going to be spending time with family and friends in a few days, I don’t get lonely. And RV life presents such a nice way to bond closer to my loved ones. Instead of flying cross country and staying for a few days in their home and feeling disoriented and maybe homesick, I can spend some time with my loved ones for a day and then go back home to The Tiny. It’s an exquisite sensation to be visiting anywhere in the country and then go back to your own bed each night.

For those who want to try the RV life, I hope you also have good friends and family members who love and support you in your adventure and who offer you, if only verbally, the hope of a soft landing if something goes wrong.

If one does not have good friends and family who are supportive, this could well be a risky lifestyle. Or it could be fine because you have yourself, and if you’re a savvy person who gets things done, that’s most important.

For me, I believe that with my own wits and talents, along with my posse of supporters, I am well covered for whatever comes along. That’s a great feeling!
