What Makes It Possible: Coziness

We all have our “musts” for that feeling of well being. One of mine is a cozy home to live in. I know this from a long life lived in various places that all have one thing in common: they are or were cozy. And they were that way because of me and my choices and my work on making them cozy. That includes a gorgeous leased home in New Orleans, a caboose up in the mountains, a ranch along the central coast of California, and various other guesthouses and abodes.

So it makes sense that my current home, my tiny trailer, needs to be cozy for me to feel at home. It’s a work in progress. I’m much more subdued than some women I’ve observed who turn their tiny or large trailers or motorhomes into colorful, vibrant, exciting environments with paint and fabrics and accessories.

I’m taking it a little bit at a time. But it all started with a tiny T@B trailer that is cozy to begin with, just by its iconic curved architecture (think teardrop), the red trim, and the raised-panel maple cabinets that were hand-made by Amish carpenters. I’ve mostly added decorations and fabrics to make it work for me. The rope lights following the curved ceiling line amplify that cuteness factor. Cute curtains made from World Market dish towels help the mood.

I also keep my space organized and clutter free. A bigger space can handle some stuff left out. But with a couple of square feet of counter space, I can only handle one or two items out. This has taught me to be much more organized and aware of my possessions than ever before.

Outside, I like to set up a covered front porch with various accessories I have. One is called an awning and one is called a visor. Or, I set up my Clam Pavilion to have another big indoor space. I also clip up colorful fabrics to make those spaces cozy. I am looking to purchase a solid front panel for my awning so it can look less messy. My rugs, which are made of recycled plastic bottles, add ambiance and keep the area clean as any dirt or sand falls through the woven fabric. My little fake fireplace/heater gives me more comfort than I would have expected. Playing music on my 42″ sound bar system while I hang out in my covered front porch area is my new thing.

It’s very fun to cozy up a place. I find myself looking at older trailers online and imagining how I could remodel and decorate them inside and create the covered front porch outside. But that will have to wait for another day. For now, I’m happy with my cozy home.
